Liverpool Shopping Center Toluca Gallery
In its design, it was decided to regularize the curved shape of the volume and hide a series of steps and breaks in the building to achieve a simple and clear continuous figure, achieving as a result the modern design of a building in an urban area. A resin material with wood fiber was used, evoking the shape of a wavy basket.
The rotation creates a vortex whose walls in tension in the flattened parts (valleys) and relax in the waves farthest from the building (ridges). A system of waves was obtained, like those of the sea, which are then cut diagonally and arranged on the building's cylinder. The store should have no windows, so there are only two perforations in this facade of modern building: the access door and a habitable terrace on the top floor.
The door is an elliptical cone section, a kind of aluminum cave, which gives dramatic depth to the access, at the same time that it dialogues with the curvature of the façade. For the terrace, a large slot devoid of tablets was left that releases views of the landscape. The design of a curved facade has the potential to be very dynamic, and a dynamic facade would establish a dialogue with the road. So, in order to reinforce it, a series of horizontal slots were left illuminated and stratified in different levels, each level with its different size and rhythm.
