We welcome you once again to Facades World. Today we have thought that it would be a great idea to share with all our readers how to have a vertical garden at home, so if you're interested don't move from the screen because we're starting right now.

Who doesn't fall in love with a vertical garden just seeing it?, beyond how beautiful they may be, they generate a lot of doubt about their construction and care. That is why in this article we will touch on some of these topics in order to clear your doubts.

Vertical garden, solve your doubts

What is a vertical garden?

Just like its given name, a vertical garden it is a plantation of different types of bushes on a vertical surface. Its objective, or at least one of them, is to optimize the space that we have available in our home, which usually does not have areas designed for a traditional or floor space. This is the best option for those who have a deep love for nature and do not have much space to have plants.

They are so versatile that they can be installed almost anywhere, from the city itself to the walls of a living room. In recent years they have become so popular that many social settings such as shopping centers have this type of decorative gardens.

Doubts about vertical gardens and green walls

Why have a vertical garden at home?

Vertical gardens offer us a much more natural and sophisticated decorative alternative. Also, depending on the species, you will get them to clean the air and provide extra oxygen. Thanks to its natural benefits, you will also obtain cooler and more humid rooms, ideal if we are talking about cities with high temperatures.

According to scientific articles, grounds They have very positive effects on health. For this reason, there are places like the Clairvaux Hospice in which these types of spaces are cared for because the sight of flowers and plants invigorates patients. This means that, by having a garden at home, even if it is vertical, you will obtain benefits on your physical and mental health.

What types of plants are recommended?

The number of plants to grow in vertical gardens is wide. It is ideal to choose those that help purify the air such as lilies, pothos, ferns and syngonios. If in addition to loving gardening you also like home cooking, do not hesitate to plant some aromatic plants that will be useful in your preparations. Among them, mint, basil, thyme and oregano.

However, as a general recommendation, it is necessary to know all the characteristics of the desired species, as well as their needs regarding irrigation, growth and fertilizer, among others. This is important because of the position of the garden, Being vertical, they are not suitable for bushes that need constant watering., unless you have the option of installing an automatic system that optimizes the liquid.

And at home… How can I make a vertical garden?

Create your own vertical garden

Some people wonder if they can create a vertical garden at home. The answer is yes, this is a project that looks complex, but is easily done. Doing it yourself can be much cheaper than hiring a specialist in it. So if you have clear notions of gardening, take advantage of them. Try to see some illustrative videos of the step by step on the internet, they will surely be very useful.

Is your maintenance very complete?

The maintenance of vertical gardens It will largely depend on what you want to look like. If you want the plants to always be pruned, you must be very consistent with this task. By having different species on your green wall, it may happen that some stand out faster than others. In that case, it will be necessary to make regular cuts to maintain harmony in terms of length.

On the other hand, we find that there are some plants that require more care than others, so this is something to consider when you are making the choice. The ideal is to opt for low-maintenance ones and thus have a gleaming garden for longer., without the need to invest more time than desired.

The irrigation system is important to maintain the health of your plant wall, so make sure you provide them with this resource. Some people opt for a hydroponic system to provide water constantly. Of course, it must be said that this process is quite expensive.

How much can a vertical garden cost us?

The cost of creating and maintaining this type of garden depends on the size of the wall, whether you hire a professional or do it yourself, the origin and type of species and the irrigation system you prefer. Options range from very cheap to very expensive. So, if for a long time you have wanted to have a green wall in your house, the time has come to make it a reality. You can start by conditioning a small space and to the extent that you take practice and learn more about its care, expand it.

Show us how your vertical garden turned out! 🙂

Small Garden Decorating Ideas – Problems?

Well, first of all, we have to get out of our heads that making or creating small gardens is impossible, because honestly it's the opposite. Small gardens can have several advantages, so here are some to convince you a little more:

  • Easy maintenance: being small we will not need gardening machinery for its maintenance, the time you invest in it is less.
  • More economical: in theory they are cheaper because they need less furniture, fewer plants, etc. Of course, this is relative and depends on your tastes and pocket.
  • More welcoming: small gardens can become authentic refuges. Charming, welcoming and very peaceful places.

With this list you can begin to realize that small gardens and their decoration are not a problem, but rather a perfect opportunity to create the garden of our dreams... Let your imagination run wild!

Idea #1 – Plan the distribution

Decorating a small garden supposes a very well planned distribution. Having so few m² it is very important to be clear about where everything goes. For this reason, we advise you to distinguish between various environments, although it seems impossible to do so because of how small it may be. With the small garden decorating ideas that we are already giving you, you will be able to decide where to place the plants, either in a single place or around the entire garden.

Also decide where the living area will be, that is, where you can rest or spend time with friends or family when they visit you. We leave you some example images so that you can familiarize yourself… Let's see.

Small garden divided into zones: rest area and area for pots and plants.

Idea #2 – The furniture

What would gardens be without their place to be?

Well, as you will understand, one of the objectives of the gardens is that you can spend time in them, that is why it is essential to create an area in which we feel comfortable. Due to the limited space we will not be able to put a huge sofa, but we will be able to find alternatives that convince us.

For example, folding tables and chairs, poufs that act as a centerpiece but also as an extra chair, or even a floating hammock can also be a good idea.

It is yes, you must make sure that the material of the furniture is resistant to the outside, or that you can cover them so that they do not have major damages with the sun, rain, etc.

Furniture for small gardens.

Idea #3 – A bit of verticality

One of the best ideas for decorating small gardens is to make use of verticality, which consists of placing the plants vertically instead of horizontally. In this way you can have more plants without having more space. The ways to use verticality are:

  • Crea vertical gardens: use pallets, hanging mason jars or DIY planters that hang or can be attached to the wall.
  • Seedbeds at various levels: form “stairs” of seedbeds. This way you maximize space.
  • Pots inside others: This idea is very creative and consists of making a composition of pots with different plants. For example, if you have a large pot but it has broken, you can use it for this. You simply have to fit other smaller pots and fill with soil.
Vertical gardens for the exterior.

Another way to do it is with a large pot, you fill it with soil and put a smaller one on top and so on. The inconvenient is that you can only place plants in the soil that is around the pot that follows.

Idea #4 – Add depth

The optical effect of mirrors to enlarge spaces is well known, so why not use this resource in the garden. The mirror will look like a door or window opening onto another garden, giving you a spectacular open space feel. You can use old, cheap mirrors, you don't have to spend a lot of money.

We would like to read you in comments and know how you did with these ideas to decorate small gardens. From Facades World We encourage you to decorate your small garden with things that make you happy, we also encourage you to enjoy the process and put all your creativity into it.

7 tricks to save your plants if they are drying out

If you have already tried everything but your plants still do not revive, we will tell you that you are in the right place. Today in Facades World we show you some tricks for save a plant that will be very useful. This is why we ask you not to throw them away and, first, check out these tricks. We started!

Saving a plant is possible with these tricks!

Who did not happen to have a plant that he adored a lot and it ended up drying out no matter how much love we have put it? It is that plants are living beings and we must take care of them like our pets so that they do not end up dying. A plant can die from various factors, among them we find the lack of water, the excess of it or even due to some disease. Today we will show you some tricks for save a plant that you are going to love them ... let's see.

1. Change the metal or decorative pots for healthier ones

If your plant is in a bad state, it may be because it is in the wrong pot. Plants do not care if they match your armchair or are cacti souvenirsThey need an environment suitable for their development. Many times it happens that metal pots contain heat and our plant is cooking inside it. On other occasions it happens that the pots that have only one hole for the water to come out retain a lot of liquid and the plant can die from excess water.

2. Remove wilted stems and leaves

Many times it happens that the plant suffered a very great dehydration. This is when we need to do a more aggressive pruning. This step is vital for the plant to focus all its forces on the healthy parts that remain. For save a plant Remember that you must always disinfect pruning tools otherwise it could have an adverse result.

3. Save a plant by treating the roots manually

When a plant is wilted as seen in the image it is because it is time to transplant it. To do this, we must make sure to unscrew the roots manually, so that they can absorb water and nutrients more efficiently. An important detail is that we must do it very carefully to ensure that the roots do not break.

4. Organic pots

We can use as an option to move our plants to pots made with coconuts. Not only are these pots very decorative, but they can also add minerals such as zinc, copper or iron to our plant naturally.

5. Remove hidden cages

Many times it happens to us that our plants remain in the same pot in which we buy them. That is why we recommend checking them to see if they have plastic cages in the lower part of the plant. This is one of the most common reasons that plants begin to die.

6. Save a plant with water from the fish tank

If you have a fish tank you may start to see it with better eyes now. You may have seen that the plants within it grow extremely fast. The reason is that they are fed by organic products resulting from the activity of fish. As long as the pond of the fish tank is not with salty water, we recommend using it to water your plants and benefit your soil with it.

7. Non-aggressive fertilizer? Use yogurt!

Yogurt contains lactic acid bacteria that can provide good nutrition for our plants. With a few tablespoons we will create an optimal environment in the soil of our plant. A rare form of save a plant? Maybe but it is a natural killer of diseases and will give us an optimal environment for our plant.

We thank all our readers for their presence in this new article and also our friends and colleagues at Architecture Planet For sharing this great material with us, we hope and hope you like it and above all help you save your plants.

Learn how to make a bonsai - We teach you the step by step and everything you need to do it

Many members of the community Facades World have been fascinated with mini-trees, for this very reason today we decided to teach them how to make a bonsai Step by Step. So if you are interested and want to know how to achieve it, do not move from the screen because we are starting right now!

How to make a bonsai - Learn everything you need before you start

This word of Japanese origin has a peculiar meaning, since "bon" means tray, and "sai" means cultivate. Today we will teach you how to make a bonsai step by step so get settled in, wash your hands and pay close attention to the following… let's see.

1. Choose our bonsai

First of all we have to choose the right tree for us, something that seems simple but often is not, since it must adapt to our climate. If we are starting out in this beautiful ancient technique, we suggest using juniper, one of the most resistant trees since they respond well to pruning and are easy to grow. Other options that we have available may be pine trees.

2. Inside or outside

After having our tree we must decide if we will have it in the interior o Exterior of our home. If we are going to leave it outside we suggest using a cedar or a birch if it is a gardenia or a camellia inside.

3 Size

We must take into account the size of the same since they can go from 15cm to 90cm. That is why we must take into account the space we have at home, the size of the container, the sunlight and the time we are going to invest in our tree.

4. Pruning

We must choose a tree that allows us to prune it and that the pot matches the parameters that we choose in our tree to be able to grow it. If we choose an adult tree we must make sure that it has been pruned as we planned and the best time to transplant them is in spring. Another recommendation is that the soil is dry and loose as it is easier to handle than when it is wet.

5. Dry the tree

We must clean the roots so that they are clear enough so that we can see well what we do while we can. After this step we have our bonsai ready to pass it to our pot with a good base of fresh soil and finish planting our tree.

6. Protected

Once we have planted our tree we must leave it, for at least two weeks, protected from the sun and rain.

From Facades World We appreciate this new entry that comes from the hand of our friends and colleagues from Architecture Planet, a website that we are recommending widely to keep abreast of the latest architectural news.
