El Municipality of Quito acquired a property with heritage constructions in the Historic Center of the City that would be rehabilitated as an Outpatient Mental Health Center. By exceeding the available area in the existing spaces, it was clear that it would be necessary to free certain areas to house new buildings in the required area.
The existing constructions in the property were made in different times and their materials were diverse. The sections of the colonial and republican era and the additions and sections of recent construction were released. The interior of the property resulted in a integration architecture, seeking to maintain harmony between the patrimonial and the contemporary.
The reuses were old construction materials, strengthening the structure of the buildings that were preserved. Pieces of wood from the shed, tiles, doors, windows and old screens found their use in the new proposal. The new construction materials they kept a discreet posture generating a framework in which the language of the past is capable of expressing itself through contemporary interventions.
