What paint to choose for our furniture
To achieve the worn effect that we are looking for, the ideal is to use acrylic paintings. They stand out for being quick-drying paints. For our furniture, what we should choose are two acrylic paints: one will be the color that we want to highlight the most and the other will be the tone that our furniture cuts. That is why we recommend that one have a darker tone and the second a lighter tone. In this case we use seawater color and white.
Remove any type of dirt
The first thing we must do is take our sandpaper and pass it through all those areas that have any trace of dirt or stains. We often come across some paint stains on these antique furniture. Do not worry since when you sand it there will be no traces of them.
Paint with the color that we are going to highlight
Once we have sanded our furniture, what we must do is take the paint that we choose to highlight. Then we go with our brush through all those areas that we want to highlight and that our color can be seen (we use seawater color paint). If there are areas that we choose to highlight over others, all we have to do is pass our brush as more emphasis on them.
Let our furniture dry
After painting with our first paint, what we must do is let it dry. Remember that acrylic paint is fast drying, so if we have a sunny day the process will accelerate even more. How much should we let our furniture dry? About 2 hours. With this time it would have to be more than enough. They can also check if they are in a hurry and if we do not stain our hands when we touch it, our paint dries optimally.
We sail across the surface
Before passing the second painting on our furniture, what we must do is go over the entire surface of the candles. You can choose any type of sail, we choose the most economical, since its purpose is that when we pass the sandpaper it skids and does not lift the paint in its entirety. So let's pay close attention to this step that seems unnecessary but is extremely important.
We add the second coat of paint
Finally we pass the layer of paint that we choose to contrast with the first (in this case we choose a white base). At the time of painting what we must do is follow the trend used in the first painting. What does it consist of? If we paint horizontally with the seawater color, when painting with the white color we must also do it horizontally since otherwise the different brush strokes will be noticed and they do not look good at all. Final sanding - Worn effect
Now yes, it is time to finish our furniture giving it that worn effect that identifies it so much. To do this we have to sand the furniture to remove the excess white paint. To make it look natural, we recommend sanding the protrusions of the furniture with angles or corners. Throughout the furniture, apply the sandpaper with different intensities so that it is not uniform and we can give it a realistic effect.
