Plaster walls - Know the advantages and disadvantages of using them in your home

En Facades World we believe that helping them know the advantages and disadvantages of plaster walls You can be a great boost for all our readers, since after this informative article they will know if they want to use them in their homes or not. So once again, as usual, we ask you to pay close attention to what comes next because right now we start!

Drywall to use in our interior or exterior design - Everything you need to know

Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4: 2H20). Gypsum is a chalk-like material and is very lightweight, and you will find it available in crystalline form in nature. Plaster walls can be a very good option or solution to implement in your home ... let's see.

Plaster, although it is a much older material than cement plaster and sand, has rarely been widely used in the construction industry. Today, gypsum has proven to be a miracle material that helps build interior due to its properties.

What is plaster wall plaster?

When dry powder mixes with water, it hardens. This material that can be applied to bricks, blocks, or concrete surfaces to form a smooth surface is called gypsum.

Previously, a 6mm layer of plaster was usually applied over the cement plaster to give it a smooth finish before painting. This is a two-stage process and involves various elements such as sand, cement, and water that must be mixed on site.

This process is slowly being replaced by a direct application of a single layer of plaster. For him gypsum plaster, the prepared powder is mixed with water and applied directly to the wall.

El plaster wall plaster It can be applied directly to any brick, solid or hollow block, AAC block, and gypsum board.

Plaster plaster thickness

It can be applied in the thickness 6-20 mm. The thickness of the lower layer of plaster is normally 11 mm for walls and 8 mm for the ceiling, while that of the finish layer is 2 mm.

It is recommended to apply a minimum thickness of gypsum plaster of 6 mm to avoid cracks. If more than 20mm thickness of plaster is required on a wall, then an initial layer of cement sand plaster is applied for a thickness of 8-12mm, then plaster is applied for the remaining thickness of not less than 6mm to achieve a smooth finish.

Advantages of gypsum plaster

Contractors and builders began to prefer plaster due to its superior finish and time-saving attributes.

  • Ease of application- Plaster can be applied directly to the brick / block job. It is also very easy to apply and level.
  • No shrinkage cracks: The gypsum reaction produces less heat compared to the reaction of cement with water. Therefore, there are fewer shrinkage cracks in the plaster compared to traditional cement plaster.
  • Fast setting time: The plaster sets quickly (that is, within 25-30 minutes). Therefore, painting could begin 72 hours after the application of plaster.
  • Does not require curing time: gypsum plaster does not need curing, saving water and time during construction.
  • High productivity: reduces time considerably compared to conventional cement plaster.
  • High performance: excellent high strength after drying, durable and light.
  • Smooth finish: perfectly aligned, level, smooth walls and perfect right angle corners
  • Fire resistant: the plaster is very resistant to fire.
  • Low thermal conductivity: the plaster has low thermal conductivity. This saves electrical costs for heating and cooling rooms in a building.
  • Decorative application: It can also be easily applied for decorative purposes and can be molded into different shapes.

Disadvantages of plaster walls

Gypsum cannot be used for exterior walls since they retain moisture. Also, gypsum plaster cannot be done in areas that are continuously humid, such as the bathroom, etc.

The plaster in plaster walls it is more expensive than traditional cement plaster (cement and sand) for the same thickness.

Brick Floors - Know Their Advantages And Disadvantages

Today we show you the different characteristics of brick floors and cement. Its main advantages and disadvantages. We also leave you photos with ideas for brick floors for the interior and exterior of your house, so if you are interested do not move from the screen because we will start right now!

Brick Floors - A Popular Choice For Your Home

Brick is a common building material for the exterior of homes, but it can also be used as an alternative flooring material within your home. Bricks offer a number of advantages that differ from traditional flooring materials. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of brick floors It can help you decide whether or not a brick floor is suitable for your home.

Advantages of brick floors

Durable and resistant

The brick floor surface coatings are extremely durable and strong. They show great resistance to wear and fire.

Softer and more rustic look

Over time, in fact, the attractiveness of the brick floor gradually increases, giving it a  softer and more rustic appearance. The gradient look can vary but it is certainly a simple but effective way to provide a natural and resistant effect to the room.

Low Cost (Pocket Friendly)

Brick floors are available in the form of pavers, that is, the thickness of the bricks when used for the purpose of covering the floor surface is not the same as for masonry construction. The cost, therefore, is  pretty friendly  for the user. In fact, depending on the type of material, which is the class and the native material of the brick used, the cost can be further reduced.

Retains Warm Temperature

We know that in the cold season, stone floors can be very difficult to walk on. This is not the case with brick floors because they tend to  stay warm  even during the cold season. It can be said that the temperature is quite moderate and constant. When used in combination with underfloor heating, the results are wonderful.

Both for internal and external use

Another absolutely adorable feature of bricks is that, unlike other materials, fading is generally not a concern. Therefore, bricks can be used both in  indoors and outdoors.

Easy And Quick To Maintain

The best part about brick flooring is that its natural mottled look already hides a lot of stains and dirt. In addition, its rough surface is suitable for  easy and fast maintenance.

Availability Of Options

There is a  variety of options  available for design. You can play with the shape, color and size of the brick. The types of patterns available for flooring are also wide and varied. Each pattern can be as unique as the other and no two brick floors are identical.

Sustainability

The bricks are made of natural clays and, as such, they do not undergo any chemical process that could harm the environment.

Also, since bricks can last that long without breaking, bricks can be easily reused and recycled for use in other projects, reducing the environmental burden associated with creating new building materials.

Disadvantages of Brick Floors

A lot of weight

Since bricks are so dense and heavy, they can be impractical for installation in some areas without proper support. This means that brick floors may not be ideal for use over the first floor.

Hard, uncompromising

The brick floor is extremely hard, which means it can be hard on your feet and dangerous if you fall, which can be a concern for young children and the elderly.

Also, this means that if you drop something fragile on a brick floor, you can expect it to break.

Prone to Mold

Although brick will not be damaged by water, it is extremely absorbent and will absorb water and other liquids if you don't clean them quickly. This creates a dark, damp environment that can promote mold growth if not cleaned properly.

How to make a brick floor

Like other forms of tile, brick pavers are attached to a subfloor (usually a concrete slab) with thin-layer adhesive.

Once the adhesive is completely dry, the spaces between the bricks are grouped in the same way as the natural stone or ceramic tiles. Some floor bricks come in sheets, as do mosaic tiles, which are installed with mortar and can be joined in different configurations to create custom patterns.

The brick floors they are not difficult to install. However, cutting bricks requires a wet power saw equipped with a diamond blade, which can be rented from tool rental centers.

Maintenance and repair

Because the brick is made of clay and is grouped with cement mortar, brick floors are very susceptible to staining unless they are properly sealed.

In most cases, a sealer shortly after the floor is installed, and must be reapplied periodically throughout the life of the floor to maintain protection.

There are two general types of brick floor sealers. The penetrating sealers they penetrate the brick, leaving most of the surface texture and original color intact.

The film forming sealers (such as acrylic or polyurethane) create a coating on top of the brick, resulting in a brighter, brighter surface that darkens the color of the brick.

Interior brick floorss

If you like the rustic style in the kitchen, gallery or in the barbecue area, opt for a brick floor with acrylic or polyurethane sealant.

Exterior brick floors

For garden paths or if you want to replace grass by floor, brick is a very good alternative.

We thank our colleagues at Remodel Ideas once again for this great contribution. Since Facades World We think it will be of great help for you to know the advantages and disadvantages of having a brick floor, do not hesitate to try it.

Flowerpots with stones - Learn how to make them easily and quickly in simple steps

After several messages and questions that we have received in our community of Facebookat Facades World we are going to share how you can do flower pots with stones easily and quickly. So if you are interested, stick to the screen and pay attention to the step by step that we are going to share with you below ... Let's start!

Do you want to know how to make stone pots?

The cans of milk or canned food are an excellent material to recycle and reuse. They have a particularity, they are very adaptable to different types of decoration that we want to do in the interior design o Exterior of our house. We can use our spray or paint cans that look great or use them as they are as a pencil for our children's school supplies. This time we will show you how to do flower pots with stones a trend that grows day by day in interior decoration ... let's see.

Materials for making stone pots

  • Milk cans
  • Stones
  • Pieces of paper and glue Akepox 3015 - Quick-setting liquid epoxy adhesive (we suggest this one for better fixing). If we do not get this glue, the white glue can be very useful, even the silicone pistol.
  • Clear varnish.

Any type of can is used but in this case to make stone pots we use milk cans that are the largest that exist so that our pot can hold large plants. Remember you can use the can you have at home, it does not only have to be milk.

Step by step to make stone pots

Step 1

We must clean our milk cans so that they are empty and completely ready to use in our crafts. If we use water to clean its interior we can leave two hours in the sun to achieve excellent drying.

Step 2:

We must make some grooves or holes in the bottom of the can so that it can drain the water when watering our plants.

Step 3:

We must line our aluminum cansIf we get white paper widely used in offices, much better, but it must be completely covered. How do we line our cans? Very simple, sticking with our glue or paste two layers of paper on the can in this way ...

Step 4:

Once we have our paper base assembled we can start gluing our stones on the surface. We can mix different types of stones or that have the same characteristic and achieve a uniform style. If we weren't able to wallpaper the base, Akepox 3015 Glue - Quick Fix Epoxy Liquid Adhesive is great for getting them to adhere the best. But if we made our layer of paper, the glue or the silicone pistol will do a great job in our decoration because they will be able to be fixed more easily. You choose the method!

Step 5:

We must give it a generous layer of transparent varnish or acetate that when dried becomes transparent. Both have the particularity of adding shine and hardness to the surface.

We thank our colleagues at Architecture Planet for this new contribution of great importance and usefulness to all our readers. Since Facades World We appreciate your presence again and invite you to join our community ...

Learn how to make a bonsai - We teach you the step by step and everything you need to do it

Many members of the community Facades World have been fascinated with mini-trees, for this very reason today we decided to teach them how to make a bonsai Step by Step. So if you are interested and want to know how to achieve it, do not move from the screen because we are starting right now!

How to make a bonsai - Learn everything you need before you start

This word of Japanese origin has a peculiar meaning, since "bon" means tray, and "sai" means cultivate. Today we will teach you how to make a bonsai step by step so get settled in, wash your hands and pay close attention to the following… let's see.

1. Choose our bonsai

First of all we have to choose the right tree for us, something that seems simple but often is not, since it must adapt to our climate. If we are starting out in this beautiful ancient technique, we suggest using juniper, one of the most resistant trees since they respond well to pruning and are easy to grow. Other options that we have available may be pine trees.

2. Inside or outside

After having our tree we must decide if we will have it in the interior o Exterior of our home. If we are going to leave it outside we suggest using a cedar or a birch if it is a gardenia or a camellia inside.

3 Size

We must take into account the size of the same since they can go from 15cm to 90cm. That is why we must take into account the space we have at home, the size of the container, the sunlight and the time we are going to invest in our tree.

4. Pruning

We must choose a tree that allows us to prune it and that the pot matches the parameters that we choose in our tree to be able to grow it. If we choose an adult tree we must make sure that it has been pruned as we planned and the best time to transplant them is in spring. Another recommendation is that the soil is dry and loose as it is easier to handle than when it is wet.

5. Dry the tree

We must clean the roots so that they are clear enough so that we can see well what we do while we can. After this step we have our bonsai ready to pass it to our pot with a good base of fresh soil and finish planting our tree.

6. Protected

Once we have planted our tree we must leave it, for at least two weeks, protected from the sun and rain.

From Facades World We appreciate this new entry that comes from the hand of our friends and colleagues from Architecture Planet, a website that we are recommending widely to keep abreast of the latest architectural news.

Learn about the benefits, characteristics and recommendations of tile roofs

The tiles are made with baked clay, which is the most suitable material for this type of coverings. Here we share the advantages, types of tiles and its ways to obtain good results when coating roofs with tiles… let's see.

What are the advantages that we can find in them?

  • Protect from heat
  • Indefinite duration, having a lot of resistance.
  • They withstand inclement weather due to being waterproof
  • they serve to decorate the exterior.

How are roof tiles created?

They are made of clay and mixed with water to be able to mold. After achieving the desired shape, it is allowed to air dry. In this phase, different treatments such as enameling can be applied. Once they are dry and the relevant processes have been carried out, they are cooked at high temperatures, thus acquiring the hardness and the final shape.

Types and shapes of tiles

Among the types and shapes of the tiles you can find a variety that is perhaps somewhat reduced, or rather, very specific. So you can find shapes: curved, mixed and flat, the former being the most common.

How can we keep the tiles clean

Yes, keep the tiles in good state:

  • Do not go up to the roof, unless it is strictly necessary.
  • The channels through which the water is evacuated must always be clean.

Concrete pavers
